Throughout the New Testament, one of the most captivating and miraculous stories that amazes me every time I read it is the account of the young boy who had just five loaves of bread and two fishes and how he gave it all for Christ. I often wonder what must have been going through the boy’s mind as he handed over everything he had to Christ. That was all he possessed, yet he gave it up without hesitation, without questioning whether it would be enough or not. If this event had happened in modern times, social media would undoubtedly be abuzz with stories about the boy. He might even become a brand ambassador for various causes. People would point him out, saying, "That’s the boy who saved us all from hunger!" His willingness to give all he had to Christ set the stage for a remarkable miracle.
This is the essence of faith—giving all without overthinking. As a wise man once told me, “Fear asks, ‘What if?’ but faith says, ‘Even if.’” Faith is about trusting God regardless of the outcome and refusing to give up.
In the Scriptures, we see countless examples of individuals who demonstrated faith and were filled with unexplainable joy. Take the story of the young boy, for instance. He must have heard about the miracles Christ had performed and how much He could do. This knowledge prompted him to give his all to be used by the Lord. No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 18:
> Matt. 18:2-4 (MSG)
Jesus called a child, stood him in the middle of the room, and said, “I’m telling you, once and for all, that unless you return to square one and start over like children, you’re not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in. Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God’s kingdom.”
Without the kind of faith exemplified by that young boy, it is impossible to please the Lord.
Why Do I Need to Become Like a Child?
Research shows that children are among the easiest beings to journey with. They are not weighed down by grudges, are quick to forgive, trust easily, and live simply. Children often learn by observing, picking up behaviors without needing formal instruction. They are unique, which is why Christ urges us to become like children to cultivate a faith that pleases God.
As Christians, we sometimes think faith is only necessary for significant challenges, while neglecting smaller matters. Recently, I found myself without money but needed to purchase a few items. I decided not to borrow from anyone, choosing instead to trust my heavenly Father to provide. I confessed scriptures like Psalm 23 and chose not to worry. To my surprise, God provided money in a way I never anticipated. That experience taught me how much I had unnecessarily burdened myself when all I needed was simple faith to experience joy.
To someone else, this might seem like a trivial matter, but this is precisely what God expects of us—faith even in small things. Faith isn’t limited to situations like sickness or danger; it starts with the small, everyday concerns of life.
Trusting God in All Things

How much do you trust God, even when there is no urgent situation? Faith should not be reserved for big challenges; it should be a lifestyle. When we fail to trust God in small matters, we open the door to worry, which inevitably leads to sadness.
Joy, on the other hand, comes from within. It is not based on what you receive or expect to receive but is rooted in your trust in God. By becoming like a child and trusting God in simple matters, you invite His peace and joy into your life.
Just like the young boy, what are the “five loaves and two fishes” in your hands? Offer them to Christ without grumbling. Allow Him to use them to bless others and fill your joy to the brim. For your miracle to begin, give Him your all.
