Knowles Shaw
Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve;
Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Refrain:
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves,
Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over, He will bid us welcome,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: A time to be born, And a time to die; A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted; A time to kill, And a time to heal; A time to break down, And a time to build up. Ecclesiastes 3:1-3.
There is an appointed time for all of our endeavors, which infact, in most cases doesn’t align with God’s timing. We want these things to happen when we want it, without submitting to God’s will. People like Hannah and Abraham learnt waiting for God’s timing the hard way. If we get everything we want at the time we want them, we’ll have no reason to trust and have faith in God.
Waiting makes us release our all on God’s altar. After Hannah had waited that long before having Samuel, it wasn’t difficult for her to give Him back to God, because she was able to recognize God as the giver, during her process of waiting. Same with Abraham. The promise came to him at God’s appointed time and he was even able to trust God in more difficult situations.
Waiting births patience in us. And as such, when we are waiting on God for anything that seems out of our reach at the moment, let’s keep on hoping and trusting in God’s process. His ways are not our ways, neither are His plans our plans. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than ours, and His thoughts than ours. Let us trust Him because His plans are good at their appointed time. Let’s keep bringing in the sheaves, till we come rejoicing.
