A seat at the table: stories of inclusion at God’s table.

Sunday school lessons were always about reigning with God, growing up. My little brain couldn’t comprehend what reigning meant, but I knew it had to be something good. Playing, perhaps?

Now, here’s how I pictured it. A very big compound, with very big tables and a lot of chairs.

God sitting at his signature throne with Jesus beside Him, and the Holy Spirit as a dove hovering over them. Different angels all around singing and dancing for God, while heavenly cooks are serving us foods.

In my memory, I would pick up my golden spoon, because my teacher said everything would be golden and sparkling.

The people that didn’t come for Sunday schools and those that used to spend offering money on snacks would have to sit on the floor, and not their chairs, or so I thought.

But it is more than that. Going into an earthly feast, to eat on the table on a dignitary requires you to know the person in question and have special access to him. Same thing as dining with God, you have to know the master of the feast- Jesus.

He is the special VVIP access we have to God’s table, even He said that no one comes to the father except through Him.

So, knowing the Lord of the feast- and remaining true to Him, as in Luke 22:28-30 is the official access to the feast.

Luke.22.28 – You have remained true to me in my time of trial.

Luke.22.29 – And just as my Father has granted me a Kingdom, I now grant you the right

Luke.22.30 – to eat and drink at my table in that Kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

The good thing about this table is that, it is open to all. The woman at the well, the parable  of the great banquet, the feeding of the 5000 and the syrophoenician woman all point us to the fact that everyone has access to this Table, if and only if they possess the access card, which is Jesus.

Would you be part of the table?
