The Weight of Words: How God uses the Words we Speak.

We’ve all had moments when someone’s words stayed with us—maybe a kind encouragement that gave us courage, or a harsh comment that cut deeper than we expected. Words have weight. They can lift someone up or quietly break them down. A simple word spoken in season is better than a thousand words spoken out of season.

A part of the scripture that says “life and death are in the power of the tongue” stands out for this topic. This may sound unbelievable, as some of us don’t even know the power in our words. But come to think of it, our very own existence came into existence by God’s words. A simple “I believe in you” or “I am praying for you might just be what He would use to touch someone’s heart”.

Another important point to note is that Jesus clearly stated that the words we speak reveals the states of our heartsIf we’re filled with peace, our words would bring peace and comfort to others. If we’re filled with bitterness, our words will hurt and make people bitter. That is why it matters what we are willing to allow God plant in us, because sooner of later, it’ll reflect in the words we speak.

So, maybe the question to ask ourselves everyday is not “what did I say today?”, but “what did my words leave behind?”. Did it heal or break someone? Did it encourage or discourage someone? Did it comfort or hurt someone?

We are not perfect. But everyday is another chance to allow God use our words as tools for healing, faith and hope.
