Faith Beyond Feelings: Trusting God in Dry Seasons

Just like there are seasons in the weather, we have seasons of life.

Just like we have the blooming days of spring and the cold days of winter, so also do we encounter times when everything feels alive, and other times when all feels barren and empty.

It happens even with our spiritual lives at times. There are times when our faith feels so solid, alive, and full of strength. But there are also days when we feel dry, weak, and our faith wavers.

I remember one of such days. As I stood before the congregation, I felt my strength gently slip away from me. I wanted to just run away from everything. I wanted to turn my back on it all. My heart felt empty, my words heavy, and even though I knew God’s presence was with me, I could not feel it.

But is that how we should handle our dry days? Should we allow our feelings to dictate our faith?

The truth is that it is not about us and how we feel. Faith is not about that at all. Faith is not rooted in the fluctuations of our emotions. It is anchored in the unchanging nature of God. It is about how we are able to see God even in those dry days, in those moments of quiet when it feels like even God Himself is silent.

Trust me, even on those days, you are not alone. He said in His Word, “Though the Lord give you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be removed into a corner any more, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers” (Isaiah 30:20). This means that even in the hardest seasons, God does not leave us without His voice, His presence, or His guidance.

And even though it feels like it is silent, there is still always the still small voice of His spirit that holds us through

Dry seasons teach us that faith is not about goosebumps in worship or tears in prayer. It is about saying, “Lord, I believe You are here, even when I cannot feel You.” It is about choosing to stand when everything in you wants to collapse. It is about holding onto His Word when your emotions give you no reason to.

Think of Abraham, who believed God’s promise even when his body and Sarah’s womb were as good as dead. Think of Job, who said, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” These men of faith did not lean on feelings. They leaned on the faithfulness of God.

So if you are walking through a dry season today, take heart. This is not the end of your story. Winter does not last forever. Spring always returns. And sometimes the roots of our faith grow deepest in the cold, unseen places. God is shaping you, maturing you, and teaching you to love Him not just for His gifts but for who He is.

Hold on. Keep trusting. Even in the silence, He is still speaking. Even in the dryness, He is still working. And even when you feel nothing, His presence surrounds you like the air you breathe.

Dear reader, faith is an anchor in our weak days. It steadies us when emotions fail, it keeps us from drifting when storms rage, and it holds us firm until the new season comes.

So when you feel overwhelmed and when your heart is fainting, be led to the rock that is higher than you according to Psalm 61: 1-2

So trusting God in dry seasons is about waiting on Him to supply strength and relying not on your strength.

Finally, my dear reader, may the Lord bless your heart and anchor you through all seasons of life
