When Prayers Collide: Trusting God's Will Over Our Desires

Many times, our desires get in the way when it comes to our dealings with God. We come before Him with a list of what we think we need, forgetting that His perspective is eternal while ours is limited. What we want is often not what God wants for us, not because He delights in denying us, but because He sees what we cannot.

Our heart is limited in capability to conceive the most accurate desires because we only have the present and a glimpse of the future, but with God, He knows the beginning, the process and the end so His thoughts are not in any way limited like ours.

At that point, our prayers collide with a force which I tag “the mind of God”.

We pray from our limited capability but the mind of God which is unlimited knows what we need to pray.

That is why one of the best ways to pray is to let the Holy Spirit help our infirmity and incapabilities just like the scripture helped us understand in Romans 8:26

“Likewise the Spirit helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what to pray, but the Spirit itself maketh intercessions for us through groanings that cannot be uttered”

Now when such situations arises, how do we help it as believers???

I mean when our desires are trying to override God’s will, what should we take note of as children of God??

First we should check ourselves in God.

How much have we allowed God to touch our will.

I remember a song by Pst Paul Enenche and his family with this lyrics

"O lord take me to the place

Where I have no will that is separate from your will

To be lost in you is my desire

To be all for you is all I want"

Many believers have not gotten to a point where we live out these lyrics, I mean to say we are still not totally dead to our self and flesh.

I have a friend whom spoke about this. Anytime he finds himself doing or thinking something out of God’s desires, he will scream out loud “Flehhhhhhhh” and this made me examine the scriptures, from which I understood that for as many that are in the spirit are led by the spirit and those that are in the flesh are led by the flesh.

But then the scriptures further makes us understand that for as many as are led by the spirit of God are the sons of God

Have we attained this phase of sonship???

We need to check if we still have desires that are not rooted in his will.

Again, many of such issues generate from the lack of total trust in God.

We acknowledge that our life is God’s but we have not trusted him enough to hand him the wheels totally.

There can only be one driver and it’s either you let God or you don’t. We can’t keep combating with him.

We say that we trust God but we still lean on our own understanding. We still make plans of our own but have we not heard one thing??

God is the master planner. He has it all figured out so your plan or mine is irrelevant. His plans supercede all.

Therefore brethren , we need to be sure of the path we are on. We can’t keep harboring our desires and expect to be rooted in His will

We need to learn and come to a state where we can say like Christ said at the point of death “Not my will, but yours, o Lord be done

We need to give it all to him

This piece is calling us to check.

Even though you minister before Jen and perform all good works, have you submitted your desire to His will???

Do you trust him totally with your life and everything you are???

I encourage you brethren, as I conclude this piece, from the words of the scriptures that tells us

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding

Finally brethren, a word of prayer with you, may every part of your body, soul, mind and spirit be put under subjection to his will, a servant of the gospel of God. Amen 🙏
