Making a Difference as a Christian

The call to Christianity isn't a call to mediocrity; it's a call to stand out wherever we find ourselves. The Bible instructs us to let our light so shine before men, that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. Our lifestyle as believers should glorify God, even as we function in the secular world. Every aspect of our lives should reflect our commitment to Christ.

During my undergraduate years, my course mates went on an exciting camp trip with students from other universities. One of my course mates, who also attended the  camp, suggested playing a game called "Draw Your Bible Sword." Her suggestion, though funny, made it evident that she was a Christian, even in a non-believer's setting.

Every year, my family gathers at our house for Boxing Day and New Year celebrations. Before I became a born-again Christian, I would join my male cousins on the balcony, indulging in alcohol during the parties. However, since I became born again, I no longer partake in such activities. My cousins have noticed the change, even without me explicitly announcing it. They sometimes mock me for my decision, but standing out as a Christian is essential, whether in public or private settings, when someone sees you and when nobody sees you.

We're called to stand out not only within the church but also in the world, maintaining our convictions even when no one is watching. Not defiling ourselves with the King's meal like Daniel in the Bible, we should stand firm in our faith, refusing to compromise.

Sometime last year, I worked temporarily as a content creator for a forex trading company. There was a day I was tempted to use a worldly song for one of the video contents I made. My friend immediately reminded   of songs by Anendlessocean, Greatmantakit and the likes that I could use for the video content. I could have used any song since it's a secular content but I believe my actions should reflect my faith, even in seemingly minor decisions.

Standing out as a believer isn't limited to posting Bible verses on your WhatsApp status, neither is it the "Abba's love" on your social media bio or posting gospel music videos on Sundays. It's about consistently representing Christ in our daily lives through small, meaningful actions.

During my time in school, I participated in campus evangelism by distributing tracts. In addition to sharing tracts, I wrote words of affirmation on sticky notes, reminding people of their identity in Christ. It was a simple yet impactful way to share the message of Christ's love.
