Have you ever felt like your life's script has been rewritten without your permission? You had plans, goals, and dreams, but suddenly, God intervened and changed the narrative. It's as if He took the pen from your hand and began writing a new story.
I recall the story of Nneoma, a brilliant and ambitious young woman who had always dreamed of becoming a pediatric surgeon. She grew up in a low-income household in Lagos, Nigeria, where access to quality healthcare was a luxury. Her passion for medicine was fueled by her experiences growing up in a community where children often died from preventable diseases.
Nneoma worked tirelessly to earn a scholarship to study medicine at the University of Lagos. She excelled in medical school, earning top grades and recognition from her professors. Her future seemed bright, and she was convinced that this was the path God had ordained for her.
However, during her final year of medical school, Nneoma's mother fell critically ill with cancer. She was forced to drop out of school to care for her ailing mother, sacrificing her own dreams and ambitions. Nneoma was devastated, feeling like her entire world had been turned upside down.
But as Nneoma cared for her mother, she began to realize that this unexpected detour was actually a divine appointment. She discovered a new passion for palliative care and a gift for caring for others. Nneoma eventually returned to school, but this time, she pursued a degree in nursing, specializing in palliative care.
As she looked back on that difficult season, Nneoma realized that God had given her the gift of interpretation. He had helped her to see that the interruption in her plans was actually a divine redirection. God had changed her plans, but He had also given her a new purpose and passion.
In the Bible, we see a similar story in the life of Joseph. He had dreams of becoming a great leader, but his journey took a dramatic turn when his brothers sold him into slavery. However, God was with Joseph, even in the midst of adversity. He gave Joseph the gift of interpretation, allowing him to understand the dreams of others and ultimately rise to a position of leadership (Genesis 41:15-32).
Another example is the story of Moses, who had planned to become a great leader in Egypt. However, God had other plans. He called Moses to lead the Israelites out of slavery, but Moses' initial response was hesitation and fear. God had to remind Moses that He was with him, and that He would give him the words to speak and the power to lead (Exodus 3-4).
Finally, consider the story of Jonah, who had planned to avoid God's call to preach to the Ninevites. However, God had other plans. He sent a great storm to intercept Jonah, and eventually, Jonah found himself in the belly of a whale. It was there that God gave Jonah the gift of interpretation, helping him to see that his plans were not God's plans. Jonah eventually obeyed God's call, and his message brought about a great revival in Nineveh (Jonah 1-3).
The gift of interpretation is not just about understanding dreams or visions; it's about trusting God's sovereignty in our lives. It's about believing that He is always working things out for our good, even when our plans seem to be falling apart (Romans 8:28).
As you navigate the twists and turns of life, remember that God is always at work, rewriting your script and giving you a new story. Will you trust Him with the pen, even when the narrative takes an unexpected turn?
