Life has a way of becoming increasingly busy, especially as we experience breakthroughs and take on more responsibilities. The demands of daily life can be overwhelming, often leaving us feeling lost and unsure of the next step. Yet, in the midst of this chaos, one truth remains: God speaks to His children, providing the direction and guidance they need to navigate life’s complexities.
A few months ago, I found myself in a dilemma—one that would significantly impact my future. The weight of my worries was immense, and I felt desperate for a solution beyond human reasoning. In the middle of my anxiety, life didn’t pause for me. I had exams to write, friendships to maintain, and other responsibilities to fulfill. The pressure was overwhelming, and frustration crept in. Just as I was on the verge of making a wrong decision, God spoke to me through His word. It was a simple, yet profound message—exactly what I needed at that moment. His words brought life to my weary soul and clarity to my situation.
Perhaps you find yourself in a similar place, desperate to hear from God but unsure if the voice you sense is His or just your own thoughts. You long for direction, but the noise of life drowns out His whisper. If that’s you, take comfort in the story of Elijah—a man of great faith and influence, who called down fire from heaven and defeated the prophets of Baal. Yet even he found himself in a moment of crisis, needing to hear God’s voice.
Elijah’s Encounter with God’s Whisper.
In 1 Kings 19, Elijah was discouraged and afraid after facing threats from Queen Jezebel. He cried out to God, expressing his exhaustion and feelings of isolation:
> 1 Kings 19:10 (MSG) — "I've been working my heart out for the GOD-of-the-Angel-Armies," said Elijah. "The people of Israel have abandoned your covenant, destroyed the places of worship, and murdered your prophets. I'm the only one left, and now they're trying to kill me."
In response, God instructed Elijah to stand on the mountain and wait for His presence:
> 1 Kings 19:11-12 (MSG) — "Go, stand on the mountain at attention before GOD. GOD will pass by." A hurricane wind ripped through the mountains and shattered the rocks before GOD, but GOD wasn't to be found in the wind; after the wind, an earthquake, but GOD wasn't in the earthquake; and after the earthquake, fire, but GOD wasn't in the fire; and after the fire, a gentle and quiet whisper.
When Elijah finally heard the still, small voice, he recognized it as the voice of God:
> 1 Kings 19:13 (MSG) — "When Elijah heard the quiet voice, he muffled his face with his great cloak, went to the mouth of the cave, and stood there. A quiet voice asked, 'So Elijah, now tell me, what are you doing here?'"
God was not in the mighty wind, the earthquake, or the fire—He was in the gentle whisper. Often, we expect God to speak in grand and dramatic ways, but His voice is not always loud or overwhelming. Sometimes, it is the still, small voice that carries the answer we seek.

1. Stand Before Him
Elijah positioned himself before God on the mountain despite his troubles. Similarly, we must make time to be in God’s presence. You cannot hear God clearly when you are distant from Him. Draw near, spend time in His word, and seek Him in prayer.
2. Silence the Noise
The world is filled with distractions—worries, social media, responsibilities, and personal struggles. To hear God, you must quiet the competing voices in your mind. Let go of your anxieties and allow His presence to fill you.
3. Listen for the Still Small Voice
God’s voice is not always found in dramatic signs; sometimes, it is a gentle whisper that brings peace and clarity. Be attentive, expectant, and open to the subtle ways He speaks.

Many times, we miss God’s voice because we expect Him to speak in a certain way. But God is not limited to human expectations—He is dynamic, and His ways are beyond ours. If you want to hear Him, be willing to let go of preconceived ideas and trust that He will speak in the way you need, not necessarily in the way you expect.
God desires to speak to you despite the noise of the world. The key is to be still, listen, and allow His whisper to guide you. As you journey through this month, be intentional about seeking His voice. In the quiet moments, you just might find the answers you’ve been searching for.
